About The Kind Wash
The Kind Wash started the way a lot of good things do — by accident.
We stumbled across soap nuts while looking for a more natural way to do the laundry. We'd never heard of them before, but the idea intrigued us: a completely natural, plastic-free, chemical-free alternative to conventional detergent that had been used across South Asia for centuries. We ordered some, tried them, and were genuinely surprised by how well they worked. That was that — we were converted.
What began as a family discovery quickly became part of our family business. We've been running as a family business for over 20 years, and The Kind Wash grew naturally from that — a desire to share something we genuinely believed in with customers who care about what goes into their home. We couldn't understand why more people didn't know about soap nuts, and we wanted to change that.
What we do
We supply natural Indian soap nuts — harvested from Sapindus Mukorossi trees in the foothills of the Himalayas — along with reusable cotton wash bags and pure New Zealand wool dryer balls. Everything in our range is chosen with the same criteria: natural ingredients, minimal packaging, and genuinely better for your skin and the planet.
Our soap nuts are sourced via a trusted ethical UK supplier with strong relationships with growers in India. They arrive in plastic-free packaging and can be composted when spent — leaving nothing behind but clean laundry.
Why soap nuts?
Soap nuts clean using saponin — a naturally occurring compound found in the shell of the fruit. When the shells contact water they release saponin, which acts as a gentle surfactant, lifting dirt and grime from fabric without any synthetic chemicals, fragrances, or additives.
That makes them ideal for sensitive skin, eczema sufferers, babies, and anyone who wants cleaner laundry without the chemical cocktail. They're also remarkably cost-effective — our 1kg bag gives you up to 300 washes at less than 5p per wash, making them one of the most economical laundry options available in the UK.
